Fitz And The Tantrums está de vuelta tras la salida de su primer larga duración "Pickin' Up The Pieces" en 2010, con el cual todos quedamos fascinados con su sonido retro y el toque especial en las voces; sin embargo la banda quiere que quede claro que no son sólo una banda de toques vintage y para comprobarlo han lanzado su primer sencillo "Out of my League".
Michael Fitzpatrick fue sujeto a entrevista pro los dudes de Rolling Stone y discutieron un poco acerca de este nuevo tema y sonido:
We wanted to show people that this band was more than a ‘retro band.’ We’d all gotten a little bit tired of that one moniker that kept getting applied to us. To me, obviously, there was obviously a lot of Motown, retro-soul influence to [the first record], but there was just as much Eighties influence, indie-rock influence, new-wave and hip-hop all mixed in. That first record was that kind of hybrid, and on this record, we just wanted to push it even more forward and take even more chances, and it just required a lot of experimentation… On the first record, it was always like the Sixties was in the foreground, and there was a layer of Eighties behind it. But on [Out Of My League], it’s reversed: The Eighties influence has kind of come to the foreground, and the Sixties soul is kind of layered behind that.
Queríamos enseñarle a la gente que somos más que una banda retro. Ya estábamos algo cansados de ese apodo que nos colgaron. Para mi, naturalmente, había una obvia tendencia Motown y retro-soul en el primer disco, peor también había mucha influencia ochentera, de indie rock, new wave y hip hot, todo mezclado. Ese primer álbum era como un híbrido y en este álbum queríamos avanzar y arriesgarnos con otras oportunidades y eso requirió mucha experimentación.... En el primer disco siempre fue como llevar a los 60's en primer plano y una capa de los 80's en la parte trasera pero en "Out of my League" es al revés: la influencia ochentera viene al primer plano y el Soul de los sesentas está un poco atrás
El nuevo larga duración de Fitz And The Tantrums, "More Than Just A Dream" estará disponible el próximo 7 de mayo, mientras podemos escuchar su primer corte "Out of my League".
